A rocking slide piece adopts Houghton's nut wrench adjustment means (patent no. 514,993) to the operation of a pipe wrench.

As with the nut wrench, Houghton received earlier Canadian (CA-48,953 granted May 16, 1895) and British (GB-189516985 registered Sept. 11, 1895) patents for this wrench.
