ALLEN FRICTION WRENCH (FLICKR)
Description:
The binding action of the cam-shaped end of the handle transfers motion to the driving head.

Produced as the ALLEN FRICTION WRENCH, and sold as the "ratchet" driver for socket sets.

A 1915 modification (pat. no. 1,124,191) adapts the principle to a ratchet drill.
