Description:
Victor J. Evans - patent attorney

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in tailors' measures; and its primary object is to provide a device of light, durable, and simple construction which is adapted to be adjusted to a person and whereby various measurements of the body may be readily obtained. A further object is to provide a novel arrangement of tapes, &c., whereby certain points heretofore difficult to locate, as the points of the neck and shoulders, may be correctly located and laid out. With these and other objects in view the invention consists in providing an adjustable standard in the form of an inverted L, upon the horizontal portion of which' are slidably mounted parallel laterally extending arms having sleeves movable thereon and inclosing a tape which is adapted to encircle the body. This tape is so constructed as to press firmly against the body automatically when in position and is visible at the front and back through slots formed in the arms before referred to. Vertical sliding strips are also mounted upon the horizontal portion of the standard, and the upper ends thereof are connected by an adjustable steel band. A tape extends from each of the slides upon the laterally-extending arms and from the end of each vertical arm, and a slide is mounted upon the steel band before mentioned and is also provided with a tape. A tape is secured to the lower end of one of the vertical arms and is slidably mounted in a groove in the horizontal portion of the standard, said tape extending longitudinally of said portion.
