Stan Schulz LA ROCK WRENCH (FLICKR)
|
Description: |
Compound leverage tongs type wrench; the advantage is ability to grip and turn pipe very close to walls, or other closed-in situations. The jaws are thin at the ends, and enclose 2/3rds the circumference of a pipe. The wrench fits a predetermined size, so a range of pipe sizes would require several wrenches. The specifications note the leverage is sufficient to have the jaws adapted to form hoof nippers.
Contemporary "new product announcements" suggest one use for the wrench was in conjunction with electrical conduit; it was also promoted for use on air, steam and water piping on railroad rolling stock and locomotives.
In 1921, Industrial Machinery Sales Co. of Chicago obtained patent and sales rights to the wrench.
Known example marked LA ROCK WRENCH 1 IN is approx. 16 1/2 inches long. |
