Stan Schulz WRIGHT PIPE AND NUT WRENCH (FLICKR)
|
Description: |
The movable jaw has a two-part adjustment. An adjusting screw similar to a Coes-style monkey wrench provides most of the adjustment. The lever handle provides the final grip, and allows for "grab and release" action to turn pipe. The hardened pipe gripping faces are keyed into the jaws. There were also smooth face jaw inserts available. A flat spring spreads the lever handle.
Some examples marked "E. WRIGHT PAT OCT. 3 93" Other examples have only the patent date or no visible markings.
Wright's July 30, 1895 patent (no. 543,665) shows jaw enhancements and an alternate grip for smooth finish pipe. |
