| The patent drawing and specification were lost in the 1836 fire at the Patent office. The "P. Hawes' shingle machine" is covered in patent X4,724, granted in March of the same year but unfortunately the Hawes patent was also lost in the fire. The Chicago Historical Society has a collection of patents of John Quincy Adams that includes a copy of this patent. |
