Description: |
The primary element of the patent is the pivoting sliding movable jaw with fine teeth that mesh with teeth on a raised boss on the handle and fixed jaw, and that is held in engagement with a spring or cam lever. The patent drawing shows the cam lever and a leaf spring housed within the latch portion of the movable jaw. The wrench as produced has a compression coil spring between the movable jaw piece and a second raised boss on the handle, or a spring between the movable jaw and handle. The cam lever was not used.
The internal spring version is marked in part "PATENTS PENDING" and "GELLMAN WRENCH CORP. CHICAGO, ILL U.S.A."
Produced in 6 inch, 9 inch, and 12 inch sizes. The three sizes also were sold as a set in a canvas sleeve, with operating instructions on a cardboard insert. A 1930 Gellman Manufacturing Co. letterhead also shows a can opener. |
