The improvement is the use of expansion slots in the circular-saw disk, running from the periphery inwards some distance towards the center. Also of interest is that the patent drawing shows insertable saw teeth. These were not claimed in the patent so they must have been an old idea at the time, but this is a very early mention of insertable teeth (see patent X3,183, issued 1820, for what is generally considered the earliest patent for insertable saw teeth). |
