Description: |
The key feature of the patent is the thumb toggle which can disengage the adjusting worm from the rack -- making the wrench a combination quick and screw adjust. The patent drawings show the feature applied to nut and pipe wrenches.
Produced as the "Quick Set" by the F.W. Macke Co. of Kokomo, Indiana. The nut wrench version is shown as #511 and #512 in Schulzes' "Antique and Unusual Wrenches," and the pipe wrench version as #616. Both are shown on pg. 202 of Jack Devitt's "Indiana Toolmakers and Their Tools." The pipe wrench was also produced by the Speed-up Wrench Co. of Kokomo. (See Ken Cope's "American Wrench Makers 1830-1930") |
