Court case of "Bull and another v. Pratt"

Description:

Because of the Patent Office fire in December 1836, little is known about this patent. Patent drawings and specification are lost.

History records Phineas Pratt (and son Abel), who was granted an 1799 patent, as the inventor of the first machine for manufacturing ivory combs. There is some suggestion that his design was substantially copied from Isaac Tryon's design. Tryon apparently sued Abel Pratt, who then owned the rights to his father's comb-making machine, and settled out of court for $300.
