Description: |
| An improvement on Thompson's Nov. 2, 1880 patent (no. 234,091). The patent adds a friction spring inside the moveable jaw, and a detachable supplemental hammer piece. These features are not normally found on the wrenches bearing this patent date. Some wrenches were produced that match the appearance of Thompson's Canadian patent CA-13,865.
An article in the March 2026 Missouri Valley Wrench Club Newsletter traces the history of the patents, evolution of the company, etc. and shows photos of examples.
See also Canadian patent CA-21,633 for another friction spring applied to the movable jaw of this type of wrench. |
