Description: |
The patent includes two variations of adjustable pivot. In one variation, the adjusting screw is positively connected to the pivot, and the pivot's location in the slot can only be changed by the adjusting screw. In the other variation, the end of the adjusting screw abuts the pivot block, and the pivot block is free to slide within the "free" portion of the slot.
According to Ken Cope's "American Wrench Makers 1830-1930," these tongs are marked "J.D. DAVIS MAKER FITCHBURG MASS" or "DAVIS TONGS, PAT*D JULY 15, 1879." |
