Description: |
A spring holds the jaws open. A sliding wedge on the movable jaw and a yoke pivoting from the fixed jaw provide the adjusting means. The patent was realized as malleable iron nut or pipe wrenches. A contemporary note refers to the nut wrenches in the context of tools given away by farm implement dealers.
Vandegrift received another patent for a different quick-adjusting pipe wrench a week later (pat. no. 444,511).
For another take on wedge-adjusting wrench jaws, see patent no. 753,915. |
