Description: |
The remarkable thing about this patent is that the shank and head were to be hollow, either to save weight or to form a receptacle for oil, etc.
A known example does not have the hollow center. The owner reports, "The wrench is 11 3/4 inches long. The brass ferrule has 2 decorative rings turned in it. The front face of the main bar is in a "V" shape as the patent shows. The wrench is marked "HADDON & CAMPBELL ELIZABETH N. J." on 2 lines. On the 3rd line is "PATD OCT 4, 1870"... [T]he knurled knob is oversized and the adjusting screw is left hand threaded. The lower adjusting screw support is held in place by the handle and ferrule assembly." |
