The adjusting screw is mounted on a pivoting block, and held against the rack with a spring. The threads are shaped with a taper and sheer edge to allow the adjusting screw to slide "closed." The hollow handle has an internal spring pushing the movable jaw "open." This provides quick adjustment with the adjusting screw accomplishing final adjustment. The adjusting screw can be lifted completely clear of the rack to fully open the jaw.
Marketed as the "Rider Patent Lightning Wrench."
Rider's full name shown in corresponding German patent DE-65969.
