Description: |
This patent covers a unique arrangement of scales on a triangular ruler, allowing a single tool to take the place of a full set of individual scales. This design eventually became the standard for this kind of tool, and is still in wide use today.
I know of no examples of this tool marked with the patent date, but one of the earliest producers of this type of scale was Keuffel and Esser of New York, just across the river from the inventor's home. This makes me think that Mr. Schwarz either worked for K&E or sold the design to them. |
