This patent provides improvements to the inventor's earlier patent 195,699, aimed at reducing the effect of heating of the saw in operation.

A full-page ad in the 1887-02-15 The Wood Worker from James Ohlen & Sons features their "Standard Solid and Inserted-Tooth Circular Saws, Mill, Mulay, Gang, Drag, Cross-Cut and Band Saws". The illustration shows an inserted saw tooth—the "Champion Chisel-Tooth Saw"—bearing the patent dates corresponding to this patent plus patents 248,761 and 315,419.
