Description: |
Separate spring from the arms which allows lower cost construction and replacement if the spring happens to break. Known example only marked with patent date. An improved version of this tool was patented in 1887 (#355,430), which added a quick-release nut to the threaded rod.
The inventor has over 40 patents to his credit, mostly dealing with cotton manufacturing, but he also hold the patent to a well-known patented butt gage, #505,868. |
