Description:
Quick adjust sliding jaw wrench, with knurled screw for fine adjustment, and alternate adjustment means. The threads on the adjustment screw also serve as the teeth engaging the threads cut in the main bar.

Ken Cope's "American Wrench Makers 1830-1930" cites an 1856 Massachusetts Directory listing for Hotchkiss & Son, Sharon, CT. An account in the April 1855 - March 1856 volume of PRACTICAL MECHANICS JOURNAL (Glasgow & London) names the manufacturer as John Hotchkiss & Sons, Sharon, CT.

An April, 1857 "Saint Louis Agricultural Works" catalog lists the Hotchkiss' Patent Self-Adjusting Wrench with or without the screw.

Corresponding British patent GB-185502162 was registered Sept. 28, 1855.
