Vintage Machinery entry for George Gilbert
Description:
George Gilbert was also co-inventor of a clothes-ironing machine, patent 67,644. Several 1848 issues of Scientific American carried an ad for this stave dresser. The ad concluded, "For further description and terms, apply to WM & E. T. FITCH, 2d., New Haven, Conn., or GEO. GILBERT, Westville, N. H. Co., Conn." It is not certain who was actually manufacturing the machine.
