Description:
The compound is any of several tools such as a hammer, monkey wrench, or hatchet, with a partially threaded spur. To use this tool, embed the spur in solid wood, give the tool a quarter turn, & you have a solid hitching post for your team.

No mention of what using this tool would do to the solid woodwork.

A hammer fitting this description appeared on the June 14, 2008 mjdtools auction at Erie, Pa. A different one is shown on pg. 104 of Baird and Comerford's "THE HAMMER."
