Description:
Adjustable pipe tongs type wrench corresponding to Swedish patent SE-1636; the design was a staple of the B. A. Hjorth Co., which initially took on the distribution of Johansson's tools, and later became manufacturer. The company is better known by the trade name BAHCO.

Johansson's best known invention was the "adjustable spanner" -- see SE-4066 and later patents refining and updating that basic design.

Note: British patents (pre 1916) were numbered by the year and started at patent #1 at the start of each year in January. The patent # used in DATAMP represents the year of registration and the patent # (with "leading zeros" interposed to make the number total nine digits). This patent is #18,583 of the year 1888.
