Description:
The pivot pin for the movable jaw has two flat faces which allow it to be moved between a series of circular notches in a flattened block incorporated in the main bar. The flats are located so that the jaw can be shifted when swung back. This adjustment provision is described with a swinging hook jaw, and with an elongated "tongs" handle.

The version with the swinging hook jaw is substantially the same as the one covered by Canadian patent no. CA-5344 issued November 2, 1875.

The elongated slot with circular notches and flattened pivot pin is a feature found in some types of "water pump pliers."
