Description: |
The quick-adjust mechanism is a toggle with teeth, that engages an off-center rack on the shank. An unmarked 14 inch example matching this patent may represent an early attempt at manufacture; the parts look mass produced rather than hand made as would be the case for a prototype. The design has a provision for an adjustment lock which does not appear on the unmarked example.
The BECKLIN pipe wrench based on this patent matches further elaborations and refinements for which Becklin received pat. no 1,656,343 on Jan. 17, 1928.
Lagreid developed an alternate design with a sliding pawl to hold adjustment; it received patent no. 1,559,328 on Oct. 27, 1925. |
