Description:
Tom Lamond's "Manufactured and Patented Spokeshaves & Similar Tools" lists Asahel G. Batchelder as an inventor and manufacturer from 1847 through 1878. He dropped the "t" in his surname during the middle of his career. He was a carriagemaker in Franklin, NH in 1845, then moved to Lowell, Mass., and began making spokeshaves. His son joined the business in 1867 and the firm's name was changed from A. G. Batchelder to Batchelder & Son. Lamond's book has several pages of information and pictures about Batchelder.
