Tubular adjustment member with male threads engages female threads cut in adjustable jaw. The patent drawings show internal handle differences between iron handle and wood handle versions.

The 5 inch size was marketed as the Hewet "Little Giant" Screw Wrench. An 1876 catalog from a Chicago firm offered 10, 12 and 15 inch sizes.
