Description:
The Sept. 22, 1855 Scientific American has a writeup on this box opener, directing attention to Taft & Gleason at Worcester, Mass.

The Davistown Museum has a picture of this box opener (pg. 83 of Registry of Maine Toolworkers ) on their site. They said that the Directory of American Toolmakers entry for this company misidentifies this as a floor clamp. See the link above, scroll down to pg. 83.
