The staff is supported so that pressure is not placed on the jewel bearing while the hands are being pressed on. An example has been reported, labeled on the outside "HARDINGE BROS. MFGRS. CHICAGO U.S.A." The inside is labeled "PAT. SEP 15 '03. / CHAS. MARSH ELGIN, ILL."
