Description:
The patent covers the dies and sequence of forging operations to form a hammer head with an elongated socket formed from the metal swaged out to form the open area of the socket. The process is applicable to forming any tool head having a central elongated socket.

Hammond had a parallel patent (no. 70,998) for dies and process of forming the claws of a hammer head.
