Description:
The patent addresses the means to adjust the position and secure the knife, along with provisions to accomplish variable compound leverage.

Casterlin's Hoof Trimmer incorporating these features was advertised in trade journals of the period. An early 1902 "new product" announcement shows patent date Dec. 5 (i.e. pat. no. 638,378.) Parallel Canadian patent CA-78,696 was granted Dec. 23, 1902.

For Casterlin's other ideas about compound leverage handles, and adjustable and replaceable jaw components, see patent nos. 791,245, and 835,900.
