Description:
The hard cutting surfaces could be steel inserts, or the entire tool could be made of steel. The patent claims a combination of pliers and shears.

Known 6" example marked "J.M. King & Co. Patd July 30, 1867." By the 1890s, pliers of this sort were called "Button Pattern Pliers," or "Button's Pliers."
