Description:
An 1848 obituary for the infant son of Chandler Carter refers to the latter as "Captain". In 1850 Chandler Carter won a diploma at the Michigan State Fair for "Best mortice machine". The list of exhibitors described his entry as a "machine for boring and morticing hubs".
