Description:
The ratchet head has a conical opening and sliding jaws operated by a screw ring. The ratchet mechanism is two pawls with separate springs, and thrown into or out of engagement by cams operated by a thumb lever. The drill chuck is also described.

Ken Cope's "American Wrench Makers 1830-1930" cites a 1902 "Iron Age" ad. An example on eBay in Sept. 2006 was marked in part "Pat ... John Rumery Feb. 13, 1900"
