Description:
Inventor Stuart Perry (1814-1890) had been a very successful commission merchant in New York City, specializing in cheese and butter. Having made his fortune and spending most of his spare time as an inventor, Perry retired in about 1860 to devote all his energies to inventing. He reportedly made quite a bit of money from an 1858 patent for a bank lock but otherwise there is not much evidence for commercial use of his patents. He reportedly obtained over fifty patents in USA, Canada, Great Britain and elsewhere.
