Description:
Call's patent focuses on the pipe gripping jaw element and the spring which is intended to keep that element in position when the wrench is used on pipe. The patent is essentially an improvement on the Bartholomew and Merrick pipe wrench (patent no. 6,002) manufactured by Bemis & Call. The wrenches were made with either a short adjusting nut (like pat. no. 5,707), or the longer adjusting sleeve (pat. no 23,751).

The patent's features were incorporated in the Bemis & Call combination nut and pipe wrench (pat. no. 145,085).
