"Vintage Machinery" entry for Volney W. Mason & Co.
Description:
So far as we can tell, the inventor was, we believe, the son of the founder of the Volney W. Mason Co. So far as we can tell that company manufactured neither gears nor gear-making machinery. The son also obtained a pair of patents for composite gears, 711,991 and 763,993. In 1904 he was the New York City agent for the Taylor Iron & Steel Co. of High Bridge, NJ. A 1911 patent for a crusher-head, 993,783, was granted to Mason, Jr., and assigned to the Edgar Allen American Manganese Steel Co. of Augusta, ME.
