Description:
Pivoting jaw face to give broader gripping area; wire cutters in the "throat" and between the two spurs extending from one side of the pivot.

Listed in three sizes as "Vandegrift Self-Adjusting Plyer and Wire Cutter" in an 1893 Dempster Mill Mfg. Co. catalog.

A "pivoting jaw" pliers with partially visible markings .. " ...Y MFG. Co. SHELBYVILLE IN." provides evidence suggesting production by VANDY MFG. Co. - a sometime name used by the company which produced wrenches based on Vandegrift's patents.
