Coates' Apple Parer (edited) (FLICKR)
Description:
Most of the patents prior to 1836 were lost in the Dec. 1836 fire. Only about 2,000 of the almost 10,000 documents were recovered. A description of the parer and what appears to be a reproduction of the patent drawing appear in an 1804 "DOMESTIC ENCYCLOPEDIA" published in Philadelphia. An edited copy of the account has been posted in FLICKR (see link). This patent is in the database for reference only.
