Description:
The patent describes the process for selectively tempering cast steel plow parts to achieve hardness and toughness as appropriate for the area of the casting. The underlying patent for cast steel plow parts was granted Nov. 20, 1860 (pat. no.30,691) and reissued as two patents June 21, 1864 (RE1,705 & RE1,706).

The parts illustrated were the cast steel parts of Collins Co. Cast Steel plows introduced in the early 1860s.
