Description:
Abstract

A machine tool, such as a milling machine, embodying a control system employing fluid amplifiers for controlling and actuating in selected sequence a plurality of steps in an automatic cycle of the machine. Means are provided whereby the selective programming of the cycle may be set up at a central control console conveniently located for the operator, and sequentially executed by operation of relatively high fluid pressure in response to relatively low-pressure fluidic signals. The low-pressure fluidic signals, as on the order of about 1 p.s.i. or less, are selectively employed to control flow of relatively high-pressure fluid to cause the relatively high-pressure fluid to actuate power means such as hydraulic cylinders for causing programmed relative movements of work holding and toolholding means of the machine.
