Description:
The wrench is a ratchet, with a head large enough to have a rectangular opening with keyways cut in both sides for the insertion of jaw segments, and a spring-loaded retaining dog to keep the jaw segments in place.

A known example is marked "G. Meader Patent July 16, 1861"
