Description:
Sliding wedges in the handle provide a self-adjusting base for this locking plier. The wedges are positioned in relation to each other by a spring linkage attached to the movable jaw. The patent is described as an improvement on Hostetter's June 26, 1956 patent (no. 2,751,801). It also notes a Canadian patent, and U.S. patent no. 2,531,285. Note also pat. no. 3,600,986.

This is the basic patent for the LEVERAGE TOOLS self-adjusting locking pliers and other gripping tools using the same handles and modified jaws.

The patent number also appears on STANLEY AUTO-GRIP PLIERS which may have been produced by Leverage Tools for Stanley, and which led to Stanley's buy-out of Leverage Tools in 1982.
