Obituary of Francis J. Bolton
Description:
Military engineer Colonel Sir Francis John "Frank" Bolton (1830-1887) was a key figure in the development of trans-oceanic telegraphy. His obituary notes, "In 1866 Major Bolton assisted in laying the Atlantic cable of that year." In the absence of information on his home address, his location is given as St. John's, which was the base of operations for the 1866 cable-laying project.
