Vintage Machinery entry for Muggli Manufacturing Co.
Description:
This vise was apparently the inspiration for the now-ubiquitous Kurt Vise made by the Kurt Manufacturing Co. of Minneapolis (see, e.g., patent 4,934,674). In this Muggli vise, note the slanted surfaces on the right side that form the interface between the movable jaw and the carrier. When the jaw (29) is tightened the slanted interface (36) provides a downward component of force that pulls the work tight against the bed of the vise.
