Description:
This is a somewhat strange piece, with a couple of very unusual features. The gage uses a reversible head with curved and straight faces much like the Ames Patent (70937), but adds a second reference face in the shape of a cylinder on the end of the arm.

The patent claims are worded in a very confusing way, such that I can't really figure out how this tool actually works. The inventor makes claims about marking holes for draw-boring mortises and marking off tapered edges, but I can't see how this would work.
