Vintage Machinery entry for Wilkin Mfg. Co.
Description:
Wilkin sued Milo Covel for infringing this patent. In 1891 the Circuit Court, N. D. Illinois, found in favor of Covel because this patent covered only the combination of elements, all of which were already known. Wilkin argued that the convex roller was new. The drawing does show a convex roller but its shape was never mentioned in the specification and so the court rejected Wilkin's argument and essentially ruled that the patent was meaningless.
