Description:
The patent describes a changeable pivotal bearing point for pipe tongs, pliers and similar tools. The pivot bolt has an internal spring which allows the two halves of the tool to be pulled away from each other sufficiently for the side with the slot to be moved from one pivot stop to another. The patent appears to be intermediate between Pease's Jan. 25, 1876 patent for multiple pivot pipe-tongs (no. 172,649), and H.S. Pullman's March 25, 1884 patent for movable pivot point pipe-tongs (no. 295,885).
