The patent includes the shape of the slots holding the chain, and the reversible interchangeable jaw pieces.

This is the first of several patents cited on Brock's Chain wrenches. Other Brock chain wrench patents include nos. 250,641, 254,862, 298,442, 366,451, 389,685, 483,419. Some of them were assigned to J.H. Williams and Co.

In 1898, Curtis & Curtis of Bridgeport, CT was producing a Brock patent chain pipe wrench.
