"Vintage Machinery" entry for Joseph Allen
Description:
Seen on Patrick Leach's for-sale list for February 2007: "Different patented combination vise, anvil, hardy, and cone; clearly embossed Allen's Patent of April 19, 1881, it's the first I've seen before; length along anvil top is 7 inches, it has 1 7/8 inch wide jaw that bears upon the side of the anvil..." In 2013 another example showed up on eBay, with markings "PT'D AP.19 1881 on one side and "MAF'D BY J. ALLEN PALMYRA, N.Y."
