Description:
A simple combination gage, combining a marking gage and a scribing compass. The compass functionality was added by sticking pins in the top of the head and the bar. How you would use this tool as a standard marking gage without impaling your hand on the pin on top of the head is not covered in the patent papers...

Also of interest on this patent (but not explicitly claimed) is the adjustable point, held in place by a screw in the end of the bar. My guess is that the original papers tried to claim this feature but it was rejected.
